Duration: 1 day 8.5 hours or 2 day x 4 hours


This instructor-led course builds on the skills learned in the Power BI for Beginners training. Apply best practices for cleaning and transforming data in Power Query. Understand in detail the different storage modes available and how to deal with data import issues. Optimize the data model in Power BI Desktop by creating relationships, cleaning up the field list, creating hierarchies and grouping data. Create calculated columns and simple measures with an introduction to DAX (the Power BI Data Analysis Expressions language). Configure Power BI row level security. Provide admins and anyone responsible for working with Power BI with the intermediate skills to prepare and publish analytics in ways which are most helpful to the organization.

This course is designed to support individuals with responsibility for reporting and analytics of data from Dynamics 365, Dataverse, other CRM and ERP technologies, and any additional internal or external online sources. It’s also useful for those interested in improving charts and analytics, as well as discovering new insights into data. 

Recommended Prerequisites

Prerequisites are recommendations, and while not required, they are highly advised to ensure a successful learning experience:

  • Understanding of data, relational databases, and data structuring is helpful
  • Exposure to Dynamics 365 or Power Apps model-driven apps is helpful

Please expect an email from the course instructor the Wednesday - Friday prior with instructions on accessing the online training.

Technology Requirements

This training requires access to a longterm Internet connection, capable of supporting video streaming for the entire duration of the training.  Attendees will need a Windows or Mac to participate in labs (Note: iPad Pro is not compatible with the labs.  Computers will not be provided.).

PowerObjects recommends laptops and other required devices be plugged in to a power source at the start of training to prevent disruption.  If possible, multiple monitors/screens are recommended.  DISCLAIMER: PowerObjects is not responsible for any disruptions, lack of service, or missed training due to inadequate technology or setup on the customer side.

Similiar to in-person training, the days can be long.  PowerObjects recommends an ample supply of caffeine and/or trinkets to fidget with to keep yourself active and alert.  PowerObjects also recommends a comfortable seating arrangement, as well as a setup in a location with minimal distractions.  It is also advised to set Skype, etc. to Do Not Distrub mode.
